"Romeo + Juliet" (also referred to as "Romeo & Juliet" in promotional material) is the A segment of the second episode of Season 1 of Pepper Ann and the second segment overall; it premiered as part of Disney's One Saturday Morning on September 20, 1997.
Plot[]
The school's drama club is producing the classic Shakespearean tale of star-crossed love, "Romeo and Juliet". At first, Pepper Ann thinks it's the lamest thing ever, but when she finds out that her crush, Craig Bean, is playing Romeo, she goes after the role as Juliet, but ends up playing Juliet's nurse...until Cissy loses an eye contact and is unable to read the TelePrompTer and Craig ends up with stage fright.
Quotes[]
Craig: Uh, but soft. What blocks the light through yonder window? |
Cissy: I promise to forget the little people on my way up! |
Pepper Ann: It is not thy juicebox, but thy name that is my enemy! |
Milo: What should I do with this shrub? Holding it is inhibiting my juice intake. |
Moose: Uh, Peppie? You're scarin' me again. |
The Desk Gag[]
"Ooh, five bucks!"
Trivia[]
- For most airings, Pepper Ann quips this following Vera's announcement, "Don't worry, I won't. Drama sucks," after scoffing, but in Toon Disney airings, the scene is sped up and "drama sucks" is replaced with another scoff. Oddly, a subsequent scene where Moose says to Pepper Ann, "I thought you said drama sucked?" was left intact. In the Disney+ release, the scene is unaltered.
- During the dream sequence of Pepper Ann wearing a fat suit, she bears a great resemblance to the Michelin Mascot.
- The little fish girl is a parody of The Little Mermaid.
Goofs[]
- When Pepper Ann asks Ms. Stark who's playing Romeo, Ms. Stark's head turns twice when she turns to look at Pepper Ann.
