Pepper Ann Wiki

"In Support Of" is the A segment of the eighth episode of Season 1 of Pepper Ann and the fourteenth segment overall; it premiered as part of Disney's One Saturday Morning on January 24, 1998.

Summary[]

When Coach Doogan announces that the next gym class will focus on the trampoline and that the girls need a support, Pepper Ann takes it as a sign that she needs a bra and must endure a humiliating day of bra-shopping with her mom and sister.

Quotes[]

Coach Doogan: Oh uh, sorry about that shuttlecock mishap, Little. Come on, champ, shake it off!
Store owner: You boobs! How many times have I told you, put the tomatoes across from the lentils?
Kid: Busted.
Lydia: Pepper Ann, do you want breasts?
Pepper Ann: What?!
Lydia: I'm baking chicken. Do you want breasts or thighs?
Milo: I'm glad you listened to me and went with the daisies!
Moose: Stay away from this one; it's cutting into me.
Nicky: Who was that supported crusader?
Moose: I think I'm gonna go live with Aunt Janie for a while.
Lydia: Pepper Ann Pearson, you are woman!

The Desk Gag[]

"Cool, a mood ring!"

Trivia[]

  • This is the first appearance of Margot Lesandre. Strangely, she and Lydia seem to have no history together (as Margot introduces herself) and seem to get along just fine, contrary to what we learn about their relationship in "Moose in Love".
  • Going by broadcast order, this episode marks the last, regular usage of the traditional cel animation technique. Most episodes following will use digital coloring, with the exceptions of "Def Comedy Mom", "The Beans of Wrath" and "Effie Shrugged", which were animated by a different studio and utilize the cel animation process.

Cast[]

Censorship[]

A scene in which Moose tries on bras for Pepper Ann originally featured Milo, but due to uneasiness from higher ups, the scene was requested to be reanimated; the episode was originally scheduled to air on November 1, 1997, but was delayed for unknown reasons and replaced with a repeat of "Romeo + Juliet". It is unclear whether these two events ae correlated.

This episode has gained controversy over the years due to the themes of this episode; the scene in which PA flashes her class being a popular inside joke within the series and with fans. It had been rumored that the episode was banned on ABC after its initial airing, but the validity of this statement is dubious. The episode was rerun a few months after, being aired in regular rotation without issue on UPN (which is now CW), Disney Channel, Toon Disney, and international channels. The episode is now available for streaming on Disney+ and Apple TV.

Trivia[]

  • For its ABC premiere, this episode was paired with the episode "Crush + Burn" in favor of its sister episode.
  • UPN broadcasts paired this episode with "Nicky Gone Bad", which was its sister episode in package order (albeit swapped).
